On Saturday, November 21, 2020, the ruling party of Liberia, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) launched her official campaign rally nicknamed the Blue Tsunami at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The Blue Tsunami rally which saw the gathering of over thirty-five thousand (35,000) Liberians from crossed sections of the country and diaspora Liberians was peaceful and well organized. There was high level of tolerance from opposition political parties’ supporters and pedestrians’ rights were also respected by the campaigners.
The event is a build-up to upcoming Midterm Senatorial Elections and a special by-election in District #9, Montserrado County, and District#2 in Sinoe County.
The actions of Liberians yesterday signify a growing maturity in the political sphere of our country as there has been no record of electoral violence or injuries. It was the first time after many years to have such a huge gathering without a spark of violence. This could mean that Liberians are getting more politically matured which is a bedrock for the sustainability for our hard earned peace.
At the official launch, the Political Leader of the CDC and President of the Republic of Liberia, H. E. Dr. George Manneh Weah encouraged partisans to peacefully campaign and go to the poll on December 8, 2020 to elect their candidates Hon. Thomas P. Fallah and Hon. Frank Saah Foko as senator of Montserrado and representative of District #9 respectively.
Speaking at the rally, Senatorial Candidate Hon. Thomas P. Fallah also cautioned his supporters to remain peaceful and resilient to the process and avoid form of electoral violence. He also encouraged them to have respect for other candidates’ supporters even if they are provoked to anger during the process.
Meanwhile, as they go to the poll, a referendum with clauses have been added to the election. Some of which are: Reduction of presidential tenure from 6yrs to five (5) years, reduction of Representative tenure from six (6) years to five (5) years, reduction of senate tenure from nine (9) years to seven (7) years and accepting Dual- Citizenship.
